France Transfers Original Brand Medicines Production Technology to Vietnam

6/12/2025

Servier, a European pharmaceutical group, has transferred the technology to produce original brand medicines to Vietnam. The agreement between Servier and Ampharco not only represents a strategic partnership but also marks a new step forward in the domestic industry’s capacity to absorb advanced pharmaceutical technology.

Technology transfer of original brand medicines – a rare and strategic move from France

On May 27, 2025, at the French Embassy in Hanoi, Servier—one of France’s leading independent pharmaceutical groups—signed a Technology Transfer Agreement with Ampharco, a Vietnamese pharmaceutical company with nearly 50 years of experience in drug manufacturing. The agreement covers the transfer of technology for five of Servier’s key original brand medicines used in the treatment of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and venous insufficiency. These products require rigorous standards of testing, production processes, and quality control—and for that reason, global pharmaceutical groups rarely transfer such technologies to third parties in developing markets.
Servier’s decision to transfer this technology to Vietnam is seen as a strategic step, reflecting both confidence in the country’s domestic manufacturing capacity and a shift in policy toward expanding production beyond its home borders. Ampharco, with its manufacturing plant in Nhon Trach Industrial Park, Dong Nai Province, which received EU-GMP certification in March 2025, is among the very few local companies qualified to undertake the production of original brand medicines.
According to the plan, the first products are expected to complete regulatory approval and reach the market by late 2026. Ampharco will manufacture around 50% of Servier’s original brand medicines supplied in Vietnam—a significant proportion that signals a genuine shift in the pharmaceutical value chain.
